Memorial Ucraniano, Curitiba, Brazil
About
Located near Parque Tingüi, Memorial Ucraniano was founded in 1995 to mark a 100 years since the first wave of Ukrainian migrants arriving in Curitiba in 1895. The Orthodox Church is a replica of Igreja de São Miguel Arcanjo (St. Michael the Archangel church) which was built in the state’s countryside, in the 19th century, by the first immigrants. The Ukrainian migrants settled mainly in the state of Paraná (of which Curitiba is the capital) and successfully maintaned their culture and traditions intact. There is apparently still around half a million Ukrainians or their next of kin here but I have yet to find any.
