Saleswoman, Lahu village near Chiang Mai, Thailand
About
While in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand I did a 2 day trek into the hills. The way up was hard work and the poor elephants only took us 5% of the way there. The rest of the way was hard work in the baking heat and we were constantly walking up a hill. We stayed the night with a hill tribe in a local Lahu village who were happy to sell us handmade fashion accessories at 10 times the normal price. This photo was taken on the balcony of their High stilted bamboo crib. The Lahu people are by far the best example of folk living in the 21st century with out even the most simple amenities of basic modern life. Seriously now, Amish people are like space cowboys to these guys.
