Süleymaniye Mosque, Istanbul, Turkey
About
This is the largest Mosque in the city of Istanbul and probably the most well known tourist sight. The mosque was built under orders of Sultan Süleyman aka Süleyman the Magnificent!
I visited with my mate Andy on the afternoon of Friday 23rd April and we spent around an hour inside speaking with some volunteers. We were allowed to sit in the corner during afternoon prayers while the other tourists were kicked out. We were also offered some free chocolate too.
The thing I liked about this mosque was that both male and female worshippers were allowed in together. They even had a special section for women to pray at the back behind a fence which was very thoughtful.
