Tartu Town Hall, Estonia
About
The most recognisable attraction of Tartu is the lovely Baroque style town hall. It was designed by JHB Walter and housed a prison and weigh house on the lower floors and government offices above. Today the prison is gone though and instead you will find the Tartu tourist information centre. The history of Tartu town hall pre-dates the current building as it is the third building on the site. This one was erected after the devastating city fire (1775), between 1782 and 1789.
